I just love how he can read right through her mask, she’s not fooling him for one second. She’s all smiley and acting like everything is good, but he knows that’s not true, yet it doesn’t help him from being bothered with her attitude. On the other hand, Carrie looks so uncomfortable to realize he…
This is so spot on and my God, this scene makes my heart ACHE. Watching this makes me further appreciate (or re-appreciate) Carrie and Quinn’s relationship even more. They have such a different dynamic than Carrie & Brody had (and I don’t mean to compare the two because it’s like comparing apples to oranges), but it’s so nice that there is no underlying mistrust, no questioning of anyone’s intensions. He speaks honestly to her…and though I think she is trying to sell him on her own lies, lies she is trying to believe herself, he won’t have it…and it’s not in a confrontational way, but in a loving way.
Also, the way he looks at her when she says, “Why didn’t you come?” His face, that look is all, “Come on, you know why…” Ughhhhhhhhh.
Other important thing is that his judgement doesn’t come from a position of moral superiority. It’s real concern, because he knows that’s not her. I think he knows she’s hurting, and her choices are coming from that place, but it’s still unacceptable, because he’s walked that road before, the one she’s walking now, and he knows how dark he gets.
And I think there’s also a part of him that fears that if she continues down that path, it will only lead them further apart, because he can’t follow her, he can’t go there again.
